Some tasks that a paralegal may perform include:

• researching legal questions;
• where they have the necessary skill and experience, give legal advice or represent clients before a court or tribunal, as permitted by the court or tribunal, (BC Code, Chapter 6, rule 6.1-3.3);
• preparing memoranda;
• attending to all matters of routine administration;
• conducting negotiations of claims and communicating directly to the client, provided that the lawyer reviews proposed terms before the paralegal accepts a settlement.
